MG Sector Indexes’ Performance Q1 2010

Among our eight sector indexes, the best performance last quarter was turned in by the MG Consumer Discretionary index, which was up 16.38% in the period, besting the S&P 500 Consumer Discretionary and S&P 1500 Consumer Discretionary indexes, which gained 10.05% and 10.93% respectively. We consider the S&P 1500 sector indexes the most appropriate benchmarks for our sector indexes, since they contain a blend of small, mid and large cap companies.

MG Energy, for example, underperformed the S&P 500 Energy index, which includes only large caps, 3.19% to 3.70%. However, it handily beat the S&P 1500 Energy index, which was up only 0.34% in the quarter.

Other notable outperformers among the MG Sector indexes were MG Consumer Staples, with a gain of 8.64% compared to 5.23% for the S&P 1500 Consumer Staples index; MG Materials, up 5.86% vs. 3.73% for the respective S&P 1500 benchmark and MG Health Care, up 6.00% vs. 3.82% for the benchmark.
